Donuts
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 1/4 cup milk
- 48 ounces canola or vegetable oil for frying
Chocolate Glaze
- 4 ounces semisweet or dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually add the dry mix to the wet ingredients, alternating with the sour cream and milk. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ½-inch thickness. Cut out donuts using a donut cutter. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F. Fry donuts in small batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and drain on a wire rack lined with paper towels.
To make the glaze, heat the chocolate chips, heavy cream, and corn syrup in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until melted and smooth, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and let them cool on a wire rack until the glaze sets.
