Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche bread
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt

Topping

  • 0.25 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons cold butter cubed

Optional Garnishes

  • as desired powdered sugar
  • as desired maple syrup
  • as desired fresh berries
  • as desired whipped cream
  • as desired chopped pecans

Instructions

  • Cut the brioche loaf into 1-inch cubes and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread them out evenly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes. Gently press down to help the bread absorb the liquid. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix the topping ingredients in a small bowl: brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cubed butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to make a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle evenly over the soaked casserole. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes or until golden and set.
